Time to De-Programme Our Minds - Of Psychological Clutter

What has contributed to enable us to think as we do now? What influences have come to bear upon our once pure and open mind?

Most of us are already aware of the influence of Parents, Culture and Education on our development, but how many of us are aware of the "mind programming" that is occurring in our normal day to day activities such as watching and listening to the news and entertaining ourselves through the media?

Simply walking through any shopping mall our low self-esteem, wants or desires are already being manipulated by the marketing strategies that reach out with its tentacles to our vulnerable and susceptible minds. Being persuaded that we can save 50% of an item's original price allows us to think that we are clever and can "grab a bargain."

The persons whose desires predominant due to their lack of knowing what is really right for them is likely to fall hook line and sinker for such strategies as the above over and over again, hence our high debt levels.

Those who already know that anything other than our pure naked selves is merely the masks which we wear to impress others are unlikely to fall for such ploys, at least unconsciously. Conscious buying of course is another matter; even so it takes years of de-programming of the consumerist culture to become a discerning shopper.

But shopping is only one small aspect of our programmed mind; a far greater danger is when we automatically ingest the viewpoints of our political, education, and academic masters. And whilst our conscious mind may whisper to us "this is all propaganda don't believe a word of it"- subconsciously because we have lived in same culture for many years rarely experiencing anything different than a so called "normal life" we are programmed simply by rote.

It would auger us well when next listening to the News, whether World News, BBC, CCN or other, to ask the question

"What part of this News Item is actually being kept from us?"

Remember, reporters and News Correspondents may be suffering from the same brainwashing as us and so are unable to discern what is true and what is false. It does not mean they are deliberately attempting to mislead us, but sometimes their political masters are.

De-Programming is a painful process. I once heard of a small group of individuals who had spent the last 12 months on an isolated island away from all television, radio and computers. When they arrived back into society and heard news reports of the latest round of bloody conflict in a war zone, many of them broke down and cried. This was the result of their de-programming. Such beings would be less likely to support by action or silent complicity anything that harms another.

"He is a great man who can neglect the applause of the multitudes and enjoy himself independent of favour."
